Bone Broth

Bone broth also commonly referred to as soup stock has been a nutrition staple since prehistoric times. Ancient hunters used all parts of the animal ordinarily inedible by boiling them in a broth to drink.

Bone both can be made from almost any animal or fish by boiling down the bones and connective tissue of the animal.

These broths are very nutritious however the specific nutrients cultivated in each broth depends on the animal used,

Animal bones are rich in calcium, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, protein collagen. Fish bones also contain iodine. Connective tissue yields glucosamine and chondroitin cartilage and marrow provides vitamin A, vitamin K2, zinc, iron, boron, manganese, and selenium, as well as omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.

Rich in many vitamins, minerals, fatty and amino acids, bone broth has many other benefits including:

Improving digestion, joint health, sleep and brain function, reducing inflammation, building bone health and aiding in weight management.

Bone broth may be enhanced for flavor and nutrition by cooking it with a variety of vegetables and spices.

Some people make a quick meal or snack of a cup or two of bone broth while others use the broth in hearty soups, sauces and stews.

Making your own bone broth is very easy and there are a seemingly infinite number of recipes to select from.

If you don’t have the time or inclination to make homemade bone broth there are many very fine, ready-made selections available such as Kettle and Fire which provides all the same health benefits as “homemade”.
